Bodies – shocks and educates

Bodies – shocks and educates

The world-famous, controversial exhibition BODIES Evolution is coming to Estepona’s Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos.

The exhibition runs from 11 April to 5 May. Rascid Bafraouri, the event promoter, revealed the display will feature real human corpses preserved through plastination. A technique invented by German anatomist Gunther Van Hagens in order to show the intricate workings human systems and organs.

The exhibition aims to educate and inspire (and perhaps shock) visitors. It includes displays of foetuses in various stages of development, as well as the circulatory, digestive and respiratory systems. The exhibit highlights the human anatomy and the harm caused by smoking.

The council stresses the value of this exhibition for schools. It offers students a hands on lesson in health and physiology. However, it is sure to stir up some controversy from religious groups.

Themed rooms are available for visitors to explore, guided by experts who answer questions. Interactive LED screens add a virtual dimension of engagement.

The show is on from Tuesday to Friday between 5pm and 9pm. Saturdays and sundays are from 11am-2pm and 5pm-9pm. The organizers will arrange for class and school hours.

It is expected to be a sell-out, and tickets cost €12, with discounts for Estepona residents. After 20 years of development, the plastination technology offers an impressive, educational experience that mixes science, wonder and, for some, a bit of horror.

Tickets for the Body.es event are now available on the website.
