Bill Gates’ predictions of 2035 are being repeated, but will they come true?

Billionaire tech tycoon Bill Gates has set tongues wagging after claiming the rise of artificial intelligence could slash the working week to just two days – and replace two of society’s most trusted professions in the process. SShould we believe him or not?

Appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon back in February, Gates shared his bold vision for the future, suggesting that AI could soon make “great doctors” and “great teachers” as common – and cheap – as calculators.

“Intelligence is rare in the era we are just beginning. You know, a great doctor, a great teacher… And with AI over the next decade, that will become free. You know, it’s commonplace? Gates told Fallon: “Great tutoring, great medical advice.”

While the interview aired weeks ago, clips have only recently begun circling online – sparking fierce debate over whether Gates’s predictions are a stroke of genius… or Silicon Valley delusion.

What about working two days per week? It sounds like a great idea

Gates floated the notion that AI could bring about a world in which most people would only have to work “two, three or four days a week.” The idea of replacing the 9-5 with the 2-3 has some appeal.

“I love the way it’ll drive innovation forward, but I think it’s a little bit unknown… Will we be able to shape it? And so, legitimately, people are like, ‘Wow, this is a bit scary,'” he added.

The trials of a four-day Work week The UK has seen promising results. In a 2023 pilot involving dozens of companies, 86% decided to stick with the shorter week permanently – with no drop in productivity.

What about a two-day week? This is a different kettle of water.

Do you think that this will occur in the next ten years?
