He fled, but the Policia Nacional spotted him and arrested him.

The man was said to have travelled around Spain committing similar ‘puncture’ crimes.

According to the Policia Nacional, such robberies occur all too often, with victims being targeted when visiting banks, stores and service stations.

The majority of cases involve a distracted driver changing the tyre, which allows a criminal to steal valuables.

The Policia Nacional warns against returning to your car if you are not expecting it and that strangers can be helpful.

They recommend that you always lock your vehicle before leaving and never leave anything visible on the car seat.
