Benidorm head waiter extracted money from exploited staff to keep his job

A HOTEL headwaiter was arrested for extorting workers and harassing them at a Benidorm establishment.

The 43-year-old man was detained by the Policia Nacional who discovered he coerced dining room staff into paying him €100 per month.

He also received cash payments from individuals so they could join his group.

The monthly €100 top-up ensured they kept their jobs and guaranteed less onerous tasks during a shift.

A member of staff reported to police that the waiter was putting pressure on a worker who had stopped paying and forced him to leave.

He had complete control over the hiring and firing of people, which allowed him to take advantage of those in desperate need of work due to poor economic conditions.

Several employees were forced to make €100 per month payments until they voluntarily left due to the unacceptable circumstances.

Those who refused to comply with his demands had their jobs stripped from them or were given shifts that violated employment laws.

Some employees were afraid of losing their job if they gave statements to Policia Nacional.
