Benalmádena’s Bicycle Festival celebrates its 40th anniversary this Sunday, April 6.
According to local media, a cycling event aimed at families is expected to attract over a thousand participants.
The Benalmádena Bicycle Festival
Organised by the Benalmádena City Council’s Sports Department, the festival kicks off at 11:00 am at the Arroyo de la Miel Sports Centre. According to Benalmádena.es, two cycling routes will be available: a children’s course for little ones born between 2020 and 2022, involving 30-minute laps around the athletics track, and an 8.6-kilometre urban route through Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmádena Costa. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied at all times by their parents or guardians.
It’s not a competition, but just for fun. Alejandro Carretero is the councillor responsible for Sports. He said that they expect around 1,000 runners to take part in this event. It combines sports with a good mood, costumes and fun. (Cited By Area Costa del Sol).
There is a competition, however, in that participants are encouraged to dress-up, and prizes will be awarded for the best costumes, bicycles, and the schools with the highest participation. The event will also include gift raffles.
Various municipal departments, local clubs including UDA Benalmádena and Crazy Legs Skating, and community businesses are supporting the celebration.
Carretero said, “We have reached the round number of 40 editions of a festival which has become an important tradition in our municipality.”
