Benalmadena expands water-saving initiatives. Benalmadena Town Hall Credit
Benalmadena’s water-saving regulations will remain in place, despite the recent rains and the improvement of drought conditions throughout Andalucia. Juan Antonio Lara signed a statement officially confirming the continuation of all existing water restrictions in municipal services. The goal is to use water wisely and not go over the 250 litres limit per person per day.
The council will continue to use non-drinkable drinking water for cleaning streets and public fountains and limit the watering of gardens and green spaces to one time per week. In areas that require extra care, the council may water twice a week. Water for ornamental fountains is not suitable for drinking. Public drinking fountains and showers at the beach must have systems to reduce waste such as sensors or push-button faucets.
EMABESA encourages its residents to report any leaks or excessive water usage. Also, people are asked to check the homes and gardens of their neighbors for hidden faults. The townhall will provide advice on how to reduce water usage and continue upgrading digital systems in order to detect leaks, improve efficiency and increase effectiveness.
Benalmadena’s water department has said that the town will only remove restrictions if the water usage stays below the legal limit. If not, tighter controls could be imposed. The message is clear: both the council and residents need to continue working together to protect this valuable resource.
