Benalmadena gets dug up

Danny DeVito, the Hollywood star, was once asked to give his opinion of Madrid at a Madrid-based press conference. He replied, ‘It’ll look great once they find the treasure!’ He was making fun of the roadworks and digging going on.

Benalmadena is the next town to experience non-stop road work this year. The municipal water service has taken picks and rakes into the center of the city in preparation for the summer rush. The council decided to replace the old pipes after the town suffered from leaks for many years and had its water supply cut off.

Calle Zodiaco will be undergoing roadworks. The plan aims to ‘improve residents’ quality of life’ by modernising critical infrastructure. One councillor said, ‘Delaying further makes no sense. These works will finish the transformation and improve living conditions. In a coordination meeting involving Roads and Works officials, local police, the contractor, and the water company, EMABESA, it was agreed that, starting May 5, work will also progress on Calle Sagitario, from Calle García Lorca to Virgo, to minimise disruptions to the broader Gamonal project.

The project is still on track despite delays caused by heavy rain. The renovation will include replacing 150 meters of pipe on Calle Zodiaco. It is important to allow plenty of time in May for you to navigate these central areas, since the work should be finished by June.
