Benalmadena’s local authorities have improved traffic around El Tomillar School to improve safety for students and their families during peak times. The results were inspected on-site by the Mayor Juan Antonio Lara, councillors, and local police. The improvements are focused on improving pedestrian areas, and smoothing vehicle flow.
Council expands plan to include all schools
The Town Hall hopes for better safety across all school zones While easing rush hour bottlenecks. Lara discussed ongoing efforts by the local police to identify problem areas and offer practical solutions. Similar initiatives have already been developed at other locations.
The improvements on Calle Terramar Alto & Cale Oasis near El Tomillar’s entrance will have an immediate impact. The expanded pedestrian area allows families to wait comfortably. A former parking bay has become a dedicated ‘stop and go’ zone reserved exclusively for dropping off and picking up children during school times, reverting to standard parking otherwise.
One-way systems create extra parking capacity
Terramar Alto operates now as a single direction exit from the Luis Vives interchange towards the coast. Oasis serves as a single-direction route that leads to Terramar Alto. These modifications optimise the use of roads and generate 16 parking spaces.
Teams of police officers and mobile teams deal with peak time challenges
At certain times of the day, traffic in some areas is very heavy. Many children and families are moving through that area.” Lara explained. The local police continue to identify black spots, and work with the mobility team, and the entire council, in order to implement effective solutions. El Tomillar serves as an example of a proactive approach.
The residents have reported smoother mornings, afternoons and evenings around the school since the upgrades. Benalmadena has developed a strategy that combines immediate safety improvements with longer-term management of traffic. This ensures families feel more comfortable when they are navigating the busy school entrances. As part of the plan, further roll-outs will be expected.
