Benalmadena has announced that it has collected over a half-million litres of drinking water by emptying pools at the Vela del Mar residential area.
Donors so far include the Urbanisation Management, and the pools from two private homes. The water will go to be used in parks and gardens, as well as for cleaning the streets. The councillor in charge of parks, gardens and drinking water has expressed gratitude to the donors who contacted the council to arrange for the fire department to drain the pools.
Hotel Benalma Costa del Sol, it has been reported, will allow Benalmadena’s fire brigade also to remove the water in their pool. It is not the first instance that this water-saving method has been used on the Costa del Sol. In 2024, when the severe drought was announced, local hotels allowed began letting the council have their old swimming pool water for the same, like the 320,000 litres from the Mac Puerto Marina Hotel in Benalmádena Costa and the Andalusia Apartments, on Calle Le Courbosier, as well as the water from Hotel de Los Maites and the La Perla urbanisation, among others. These collections went mainly to maintaining the Parque de la Paloma.
Benalmadena has taken on many initiatives. Save water campaigns and digital network supply, as well investments in piping that will help garden irrigation.
Along with the notices, keys, to be able to wash and water the park, it’s added that the City Council was able to implement the relevant authorizations to irrigate with regenerated the Parque De La Paloma, as well other types have been promoted for saving water, awareness campaign amongst citizens, the work of digitization of supply networks, and the work is currently being done to complete the channels of irrigation with regenerated throughout the city.
