The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) released a shocking statement on Tuesday, 11 November, regarding FC Barcelona’s golden child, Lamine Yamal. After an invasive medical test that was not disclosed to the RFEF, the fan favourite right winger of Spain has been suddenly dropped from the squad for World Cup qualifying matches against Georgia and Turkey.
Lamine’s secret Lamine-Yamal procedure results in an astonishing change
Yamal was to represent Spain in the two upcoming World Cup qualifying matches after he played for Barcelona for 90 minutes in a 4-2 win over Celta Viog on Sunday, Nov. 9. However, the RFEF announced that he had to be dropped because he underwent an invasive radiofrequency treatment for pubalgia – a chronic groin problem. The RFEF was not informed that Yamal had undergone this procedure which takes 7-10 days to recover from.
The RFEF takes action
The statement issued by the RFEF states: “The Medical Services of RFEF express their shock and discomfort upon learning that at 13:47, on Monday, 10th November, the day of official training with the National Team, player Lamine Yamal underwent an invasive radiofrequency treatment for his pubic discomfort the same morning.
The National Team’s medical staff was not informed in advance of this procedure. They only learned of its details through a 22:40 report last night. It indicated a medical recommendation to rest for seven to ten days.
In this case, and with the priority of health, safety, well-being, and security, the Royal Spanish Football Federation decided to release the athlete.
“We are confident he will make a full and speedy recovery.
Rising tensions concerning Barça’s young star
Yamal, who turned 18 years old in July, is already a rising superstar for Barça, and a point of contention for club leaders and authorities. Luis de la Fuente claimed previously that the young athlete is in excellent condition after including him to the list of qualifiers. Hansi Flick, manager of La Liga Club Barcelona, criticized De la Fuente’s carelessness towards Yamal in September.
Flick said, “They gave Flick painkillers so he could play. He played for 73 and 79 minutes in each match. Between matches, he was not allowed to train. This is not the way to take care of a player. “I am deeply saddened by this.”
Flick changed his mind in October. He said, “I have to protect my player. This is why I’ve made it a bit louder than I normally want it. I don’t feel bad about it. It’s important to work together. The Spanish Federation and the clubs, but also the players. We must manage it together.”
This incident raises questions about why the RFEF and other officials were not informed of Yamal’s procedure. It is certain to inflame tensions surrounding Barcelona’s talented athlete.
