Barcelona fans will have a longer wait to see the team playing at the Camp Nou.

The club confirmed today that their long-awaited return to the famous stadium will not happen before the start of the next season.

Barcelona’s Camp Nou Comeback has been delayed once more

Catalan giants originally aimed to return by the end of 2024 after major redevelopment began in 2023. Hopes were first pinned on the month of February, then again shifted to may, when it appeared that the club might be celebrating their return with an El Clasico.

According to The Athletic, Barcelona has informed its Socios that Hansi Flick’s team will stay at the Estadi Lluis Companies for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.

Barcelona stays at Estadio Olympique despite cancellations of concerts

Barcelona was already under pressure from a number of summer concerts that were scheduled to take place at the Estadi-Olimpic. As the concerts have been cancelled, the club can now extend its lease until the summer.

Estadi Olimpic was a temporary fix, but it wasn’t ideal. Attendance figures have struggled, with the stadium frequently falling short of a full house – a far cry from the usual packed stands of the Camp Nou.

Barça face financial hit as Camp Nou comeback postponed

The financial benefits of returning to the home ground were a major reason why Barcelona was eager to do so this season. The club could have benefited from playing at the Camp Nou, since ticket sales and matchday revenue at the Estadio Olimpic were well below expectations.

This latest delay means that more money has been lost, prolonging what was already an extremely difficult time off the pitch. Barcelona hopes that their long-awaited homecoming will be in 2025-26.
