Band of Friends – tribute to Rory Gallagher, formed by ex members of the band, at Louie Louie, Estepona

Hendrix was his favourite guitarist. He was not celebrated as he deserved to be until the Band of Friends were formed in 1995, after Hendrix died.

Band of Friends will be bringing their electrifying tribute to Rory Gallagher, to the legendary Louie Louie venue in Estepona on Friday 16th January. From 11pm onwards, this high-energy performance will revive the raw and passionate spirit of Ireland’s greatest guitar icon in a night as real as you can get.

Rory Gallagher’s self-taught virtuoso, known for his battered 1961 Fender Stratocaster and blistering solos as well as unforgettable live shows left an indelible impression on blues-rock. He died in 1995. Over 30 million records have been sold, and his music has inspired generations.

Rory Gallagher’s Ultimate Experience 2026

The authenticity of Band of Friends is what makes this concert so special. In 2012, this band featured musicians who had played with Gallagher. Gerry McAvoy was the bassist in Rory’s group from 1971 to 1992, appearing on all solo albums and tours, and Brendan O’Neill shared the stage with him early in his career. The current lineup performs powerful, faithful renditions of Gallagher’s classics, including “Bad Penny”, A Million Miles Away”, Shadow Play, and more. They capture the sweat-soaked intensity that was characteristic of his legendary performances.

Louie Louie is the rock’n roll bar of the Costa del Sol. Located opposite Estepona’s Puerto Deportivo it’s the ideal intimate venue for this tribute. This venue is well-known for its warm atmosphere and for hosting top blues, rock and pop acts. It will come alive in the gritty soulful energy of Gallagher.

If you are a Rory fan or if this is your first encounter with his music, then this show will offer a unique opportunity to witness the essence of the blues rock genius as it was brought to life by the people who knew him the best. Expect soaring guitar work, thunderous rhythms, and pure passion – a night of unforgettable rock’n’blues.
