Ballard, Season One
Ballard This is a sharply-written, smart crime series which manages to be fresh. Maggie Q plays Detective Renée Ballard, leading an underfunded cold case unit buried in the LAPD basement. She is tough, introspective and doesn’t play politics. Although the cases are complicated and satisfyingly twisty in nature, it is the characters that make this show so strong. Ballard’s team consists of a mixture of outsiders that bring depth to the story. The writing is deliberate, giving each case its emotional weight and Ballard his own past time to breathe. It is grounded, confident and quietly captivating. It’s a film with outstanding performances, thoughtful direction and a great story. Ballard The film is not loud, but earns your respect by being consistent. Prime Video is now streaming.
Too Much Season One
Too Much The story begins with a woman trying to rebuild her broken life in London after fleeing New York. Megan Stalter delivers a full-bodied, brave performance as Jess – a woman torn between romantic idealism and emotional chaos. While there are some real insights, especially when the plot delves into the past, the script relies too much on awkward humor and overworked dialog. Certain characters never quite feel believable. It’s true that the show has some strengths. A great soundtrack, some truly moving moments and a message about being “too much”, for the right people. It’s a great show to watch if you like something messy, raw and relatable. Too Much Netflix now offers the film.
