Museo de Grabado begins 2026 with an exhibition by Italian artist Arturo Vermi

Arturo Vermi, an Italian artist, will be exhibiting at the Museo de Grabado in 2026.

The Museo del Grabado Español Contemporáneo in Marbella’s historic Old Town is kicking off its 2026 exhibition programme with a spectacular show that art lovers in the area should not miss: “La Pervivencia de lo Mínimo: Arturo Vermi”.

This will be the first exhibition in Spain dedicated to Italian artist Arturo Vermi (1928–1988), a pioneering figure in European minimalism whose work anticipated many of the movement’s key developments. Curated by Simona Bartolena—who last year collaborated successfully with the museum on the highly acclaimed “De Cézanne a Picasso, de Kandinsky a Miró” exhibition—the display features a carefully selected array of Vermi’s paintings and sculptures.

The deepest poetic and symbolism

Vermi’s minimalistic approach is distinguished by a deeply symbolic and poetic quality that goes beyond formal reduction and emotional neutrality. His discrete, meditative style relies on repetition and geometry. Emptiness is also a key element, playing a role that’s active, not just as an absence but as a “visual silence”, which heightens forms in the same manner that silence in music does. This approach is reminiscent of Eastern philosophy, especially Zen, and bridges the industrial objectivity of Anglo American minimalists like Donald Judd and Dan Flavin with the contemplative interpretations.

To enrich the experience, the exhibition pairs Vermi’s pieces with works from the museum’s own collection by renowned Spanish artists José Guerrero, Joan Hernández Pijuán, and Elena del Rivero, along with the South Korean master Hyong Keun-yun. This thoughtful dialogue shows how cultures share a similar exploration of spiritual depth and minimal forms.

It is important to note that the word “you” means “you”. inauguration Visitors will be able to gain an insight from curator Simona bartolena.

Located in the beautiful Renaissance-era Hospital Bazán in Marbella’s Casco Antiguo, the exhibition occupies rooms 8 and 9 and runs until May 5. Opening hours follow the museum’s regular schedule: mornings from Monday to Friday 10am – 2pm, weekends 11am –2pm; and afternoons on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 5pm – 8pm.

It’s a rare occasion to discover in our city a European minimalist innovator who is underappreciated. The Arturo Vermi exhibition The experience is profound and enriching.
