Mojácar has opened a new initiative for creatives to reimagine the city’s public benches, but artists might want to be quick, as submissions close this Monday.
The Mojácar city council is looking to bring some light and new energy to a very familiar item of Spanish towns: los bancos, those familiar benches that decorate parks and promenades with their classic brown look. The “SentArte’ initiative is looking for artistic proposals that will transform these benches. It welcomes ideas from all creative disciplines.
We want visitors and locals to rediscover the beauty of our landscapes by pause, art and sensibility.”, said the Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García. “We are convinced that culture can be used as a tool to transform society and creativity can drive local development.”
Participants interested in taking part can submit up three proposals. Included are a title and 150-word summary of the project. Artists should describe the inspirations, themes and ideas behind their designs in this sketch. They must also provide a list materials required.
Selected artists will receive a small kit to launch their renovation, consisting of five buckets of paint, varnish, paintbrushes, sandpaper… Everything they might need to bring their vision to life.
Ayuntamiento wants to display each bench, along with its title, reference or message as well its author on both the Ayuntamiento site and the Municipal Tourism Office.
You have until Monday, April 21, to submit an idea with a brief explanation. The website of the City Council has all the bases and conditions. If selected, you will have one month to complete your work and become a part of the Mojácar landscape forever.
