AREME Celebrates 20 Years of Community, Friendship, and Giving Back in Estepona

The Foreign Residents Association of Estepona, or AREME, has reached a milestone as the new year dawns: its 20th Anniversary. Founded in 2006. This dedicated non-profit has spent more than two decades bringing together foreign residents, fostering friendships and acting as a strong voice for the community of internationals in one the Costa del Sol’s most popular towns.

AREME is officially registered with Junta de Andalucia under No. AREME is a key part of the expat community on the Costa del Sol. The association has close relationships with local authorities including the Foreigners Department and Councillor for Tourism and Foreign Residents to help raise concerns, improve service, and assist newcomers in integrating into Spanish culture.

AREME, known for its warm atmosphere, combines fun social events with a dedication to charity. The regular coffee mornings offer a perfect opportunity for casual conversation. Quiz night is a lively event that brings members together to have fun, compete in amiable competition and raise money for charity.

Highlights include:

  • Coffee mornings on the 1st Monday of each month at Ricks Café in Estepona Port, starting at 11am.
  • Coffee mornings are on the 3rd Monday of each month at Regency Bar & Restaurant in Benavista, also from 11am (with lift access available next to the English butcher).
  • ViceVersa hosts quiz nights in Estepona on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 7pm.

Through these and other activities, such as charity quizzes, table-top sales, book clubs, and larger events like hog roasts and dine & dance nights, AREME has donated thousands of euros over the years to local organisations, including the EMAÚS Estepona Soup Kitchen, Asociación Paula (child cancer support), the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), Alzheimer’s associations, and many more.

To launch this special 20th anniversary year, AREME is inviting both long-standing members and newcomers to renew or join for the modest fee of €10 per year. The small donation helps to keep the association going, ensures events will continue, and supports ongoing charitable giving and advocacy.
