Fed up with dropped calls and dead wifi in Casares? Town hall has a plan to get your money back

Are you tired of dropped calls and no wifi in Casares, Spain? Town Hall has a plan for getting your money back

Anyone who lives between Casares Costa to El Secadero knows the frustration that comes with watching a signal disappear in mid-conversation. There’s now a way you can actually do something.

The Town Council steps in following weeks of network chaos

Casares Council released a claim form that residents can use to request financial compensation from their service providers if they have experienced repeated outages of mobile, fibre and internet. Officials said the move was made in response to a recent string of disruptions that hit Casares and El Secadero especially hard.

Many people in the region have been left without Netflix more than one evening. Small business owners, freelancers and remote workers that depend on a reliable line to earn their living were cut off in the worst of times. They couldn’t take calls, process payment or stay in contact with clients.

What does the claim form do?

Instead of leaving the residents to their own devices, the template from the council allows each affected customer to set out the specific damage caused by the outages. Importantly, it also lets them note that recent outages are not isolated incidents but have occurred repeatedly. This pattern is crucial, because providers will pay more when they see that a fault has been recurring and not just an isolated incident.

Residents of the coast can pick up a copy at Casares’ town hall, as well at the local council office (Tenencias de Alcalda) in Casares Costa or El Secadero.

Movistar, Madrid and other companies under increasing pressure

Officials are pushing this issue up the chain. Contacts are ongoing with both the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service and Telefonica/Movistar’s regional management in Andalucia, with council representatives seeking a lasting fix rather than another temporary patch.

Casares is not the first to have to fight for an adequate phone line. The council had to upgrade the connection after months of problems in the historical centre. At one point, they even considered paying for the repairs themselves to solve the problem. Residents will need to be patient again, but this episode shows that persistent pressure from the city hall can work.

What you can now do

Anyone who feels they have lost out on something is encouraged to reconsider. submit a claim via the town hall Officials continue to press operators and the government for a service that matches the growing needs of local towns.
