From Bach to Ellington is a brand new, innovative project that will be performed at the Clarence Jazz Club by the British saxophonist Andy Sheppard and Swiss pianist Michael Arbenz.
This concert is sure to be a mesmerizing dialogue between the timeless beauty of J.S. Bach and the lyrical elegance of Duke Ellington in a mash-up of Baroque contrapuntal with jazz improvisation, in an emotional performance.
Their collaboration is based on years of mutual respect and appreciation for the work of each other. From Bach to Ellington is their new album, which combines original compositions based on Bach’s work with reimagined Ellington standards, creating a sound balancing historical reverence and contemporary reinvention. Their shared musical language is defined by subtle rhythms, chamber textures and striking melodic clarity.
Arbenz is an eccentric pianist, classically trained, with a passion to play jazz. His Basel studies have given him a unique view of the world. A combination of his exploration of jazz improvisation and a classical background has led to a successful career that includes performances with jazz stars such as Greg Osby or Ron Carter.
Sheppard is a British jazz legend and longtime ECM artist. He is known for his innovative yet traditional sound. Sheppard, one of the few soloists who performed with the postwar bands of Carla Bley and George Russell as well as Gil Evans, complements Arbenz’s inventiveness perfectly.
The Clarence Jazz Club, Friday 26th September at 10pm, will host a duo that offers an intimate and free-spirited exploration between two musical giants. This is a must-see! Tickets are priced between €15 and €20 and are on sale now at the box office in Calle Danza Invisible 8, Torremolinos, or visiting the website at clarencejazzclub.com.
