Andalucia’s 2024-2025 flu vaccination campaign is now over. 1.7 million flu shots and 839 635 Covid shots were given across the entire region. The campaign began on September 30, 2020 and ended on March 3, 2025. 91.6% flu doses were used and 75.4% Covid vaccines. The region once again has lived up to its reputation of being a leader in the protection of public health.

Malaga was one of the provinces that stood out, having delivered 308,314 influenza vaccines and 156,676 Covid Sevilla, the country’s second largest city, is also a leader in jabs. Among residents aged 60 and over, 47% got their flu shot, while 27.5% opted for Covid protection – figures that reflect a strong commitment from older adults to keeping themselves in top health.

Seniors lead the way Charge

Priority is given to those who are most vulnerable. For example, the flu vaccination rate for people aged 90 or older was 72.3%. The Covid vaccination rate was 46.5%. For the 80-89 year old group, 70.6% opted for flu vaccination and 45.5% Covid protection. The 70 to 79 age bracket also followed the trend with 61.7% flu coverage and 35.9% Covid, while the 60-69 group saw a slight drop in numbers, dropping from 38% to 20.3%.

Kiddies get their dose – with a twist.

The use of nasal sprays in the flu vaccine for children aged 6 to 59 month was a major game changer. The October school-based initiative helped boost the numbers, especially in Cordoba and Jaen. Malaga, with 53.6% of the total, was slightly behind. However parents are still very motivated to keep their children healthy.

Care homes are the gold standard

Perhaps the biggest win came from care homes, where 88.5% of residents received flu protection and 80.6% got their Covid jab – ensuring some of the most at-risk members of society were well shielded from seasonal illnesses.

The Andalusian Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs declared the campaign a success.
