Expect a lot more of our American cousins coming to the Costa del Sol this summer as ‘New Miami’, as the coast has been dubbed, braces for a new wave of luxury tourism.
The organisation ‘Turismo Costa del Sol’ (basically, the tourist board) is entertaining a group of representatives from high-end travel agencies in the United States specialised in luxury tourism. Rumour has it that they are thrilled.
New flights to Atlanta and Miami should be added before summer. Flights between New York and Malaga have already been sold out. It appears that the demographic of holidaymakers in 2025 will change, with promotions and routes from China as well as the States. They all share a desire for luxury, culture, history and high-quality. Both demographics are not as fond of the beach, but they both have higher spending power.
New demographics more interested than ever in culture and cuisine
During their visit, travel agency representatives were able to discover first-hand how the Costa del Sol excels in the hotel sector by visiting luxury establishments. As well, they have been introduced to cultural and lifestyle experiences unique to southern Spain, including olive oil and wine tasting, local gastronomy, Andalusian art, and even an exclusive workshop in which they learnt to play the cajón flamenco.
United Airlines, in response to the huge demand for flights between New York & Malaga, increased their flight offer by 280 percent in July 2024. Over the course of the summer, 50 private jets per week landed at Costa del Sol Airport with an increase in North American passengers and Chinese.
In 2025, tourism in Costa del Sol will be transformed. It will have more spending power.
