At just 24 years old, Álvaro Tapia, a blind pianist from Malaga, is winning the hearts of audiences with his extraordinary musical talent and inspirational journey.
Tapia was born blind due to an optic nerve atrophy. However, he has not let this disability define his identity. His passion for music has led him to a career that began as early as age five.
Tapia started his musical career at Malaga’s Professional Conservatory where he developed an intimate connection with the keyboard and learned classical pieces composed by composers including Chopin and Beethoven. His talent has taken him to prestigious stages, including the Edgar Neville Auditorium in Malaga and the Manuel de Falla Auditorium in Granada, where he performed at the ONCE Andalucía Flamenco Biennial. His debut with the Malaga Symphony Orchestra at Malaga’s Cervantes Theatre was a high point in his career. It showed his talent to combine classical and flamenco.
Tapia has a diverse musical background. He is not just a performer, but has also collaborated with other groups like the Malaga Youth Orchestra and composed his own original works. Tapia graduated in piano performance, and now pursues a master’s degree in musical research. His goal is to inspire other people through his story. Tapia, who believes in perseverance, said: “I want show that disability isn’t a barrier.”
Tapia, who is supported by both his family and ONCE, continues to make a mark in music, proving talent and perseverance can be a powerful force.
