It was perfect running weather in Malaga on Sunday as thousands took part in the 45th Carrera Urbana Ciudad de Málaga. The city’s most popular mass participation race was held under clear skies with a gentle breeze this year, after last year’s event had been affected by rain.

Nabil Sébbar, a native of Almeria who competed for Trops de Cueva de Nerja in the men’s race, crossed the finish-line in 30 minutes and 5 seconds. This was his first race and he almost beat the course record set by El Mouaziz back in 2014.

Pablo Van Hoom of Álora finished second in 30:18 and Alejandro Cañas from Club Atletismo Málaga took third in 31:32.

Sebbar, a track and cross country athlete who competes regularly, said: “I was very tired, especially in the uphill sections. But it was a beautiful course, and well organised.”

“I’m no road specialist but I am delighted that it fitted my calendar this year. “It was my first visit and it was an amazing experience,” he said, smiling.

New Women’s Record

Nazha Macrouh from Club Nerja in Granada retained her women’s title, and she also broke her own record. Her time was 32 minutes 31 seconds.

She was followed by twins Belén and Eva Infantes from Álora, finishing in 36:08 and 37:15, respectively.

“I felt much more comfortable than last year. Especially in my legs.” “The atmosphere was incredible and the crowd’s support helped a great deal,” said Machrouh. She plans to return to the race next year in order to improve her time.

Proceeds from the event’s charity T-shirt sales went to Adein and Anfremar, supported by Fundación Unicaja. The race coincided International Breast Cancer Day. In collaboration with the AECC, pink Solan de Cabras bottle were distributed.
