A CORRUPTION case involving politicians, real estate developers and other parties began in Alicante Tuesday.
11 defendants are facing jail over licences granted to the building of 293 family homes in Llíber, between 1999 and 2003.
The properties were constructed on land that was classified as ‘non-developable’.

Jose Juan Reus the mayor of Marina Alta is on trial along with the ex-mayor Jose Mas and former councillors as well as developers.
Since then, two more people accused of corruption are dead.
The prosecution claims that foreigners bought new homes but were unable to legalize them.
The charge sheet includes crimes such as planning, prevarication (delaying action), bribery or document forgery.
The Prosecutor’s office wants to impose prison sentences from 15 months up to seven years. They also want fines and to disqualify you from holding public office.
The trial should be completed by May 21.
