Tireless Costa del Sol charity fundraisers Alan and Jenny Boardman are set to relaunch their highly successful ‘Eyedrop’ campaign and are urging people not to discard old spectacles as they prepare for a return trip to Uganda in January 2026.

The couple have announced their plans to the community and they are asking for new or used glasses to be donated to improve the sight of hundreds of people in remote Ugandan villages.

The Boardmans have decided to continue the mission they started with their 2024-2025 Campaign, in which over 5,000 pairs spectacles were delivered, as well as school supplies, toothbrushes and other items to communities living in poverty. Your donations of spectacles have improved the vision of hundreds of villagers living in remote areas of Uganda.

The ‘Eyedrop’ campaign, first launched in 2023 to aid the less privileged in Gambia, invites residents to donate old or no-longer-needed glasses, as well as new ones, to be distributed to those in need. The campaign last year, which was supported by the Costa del Sol Community and the Idiliq Foundation resulted emotional moments. For example, a Ugandan read his Bible for first time in many years after receiving donated glasses. The couple delivered the donated items personally to schools and hospitals in Uganda’s most impoverished regions, such as the Bwindi Impenetrable forest, on a three-week trip in January 2025.

Alan and Jenny will collaborate with businesses in the Costa del Sol, as well as inland areas to establish drop-off locations for spectacles between October and November. The list of participating locations will be released soon to make it easy for all Costa del Sol residents to participate. Alan said that businesses will be asked to act as drop-off locations for the campaign. He expressed gratitude for the generosity of the community.

The couple’s tireless dedication to charity extends beyond ‘Eyedrop’. Known for Alan’s Mijas Walking Tours and fundraising events for local causes like Cudeca, they have raised over €25,000 for Costa del Sol charities in recent years. The upcoming Uganda trip builds on their previous efforts to bring hope and practical assistance to communities that lack access to basic needs like eyewear.

Check your back drawers for old eyeglasses. Stay tuned for the list. Information will be available shortly.
