On Saturday, June 21, at 12pm the Duquesa Castle will host an art exhibit and fundraiser to benefit Age Concern Sabinillas Anti-Dementia Fund.
You can expect a cava-reception, as well as an exhibition featuring the works of Nina Valdes a local artist and writer. Nina will also be signing copies of her latest book ‘The Black Pearls’ with all proceeds donated to charity. On Sunday, 22nd June from 12:30pm to 3:00pm there will be a musical performance by local musicians and a raffle.
The Dementia Support Group of Age Concern Sabinillas, a small team of dedicated volunteers that serves the Manilva community. Led by Nina Valdés and Reg Winkworth, the group offers vital support to individuals and families affected by dementia, providing both practical help and emotional care during what is often an extremely isolating and difficult time.
Most of the people they help are elderly and living alone. They struggle to navigate complicated systems, such as pensions, benefits or just finding reliable information. Volunteers provide food, transportation and companionship as well as translation services.
The grassroots nature of this group sets it apart. The group does not receive any grants or funding from institutions. It relies solely on proceeds generated by local charity events, and Nina’s paintings. Their impact, despite their modest means is profound and highly valued by the people they support.
Then mark your calendars on Saturday and Sunday, June 21-22, for an afternoon of culture at Castillo de la Duquesa. All for a worthy cause.
