On Saturday, May 31, 2025, members and supporters of Age Concern Marbella – San Pedro gathered at El Gamonal restaurant in San Pedro for the organisation’s annual Charity Gala Dinner Dance, a lively fundraiser to support older English-speaking residents on the Costa del Sol.
The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as guests arrived and sipped wine on what seemed like the hottest of days. Mr Maph, the charismatic Costa del Sol Soul Man set up all his equipment to ensure an unforgettable night of music and celebration.
Kicking off the event, Carol Woolnoth, Vice President of Age Concern Marbella – San Pedro, passionately outlined the organisation’s mission to enrich the lives of older English-speaking residents. She stressed the need for fundraising in order to maintain vital programmes such as weekly visits by volunteers to local care homes where they provide English-language music, conversation and entertainment to lift residents’ spirits. Age Concern supports those dealing with loneliness following the loss of their partner by hosting five monthly coffee breakfasts in various venues. These events encourage meaningful connections and friendships. A dedicated helpline is available to address critical needs such as homecare support. Carol talked about the challenges of finding volunteers who can relieve carers from their 24/7 duties. Additionally, the organisation collaborates with the Málaga consulate to assist with repatriation. Carol thanked the attendees, despite competing events, for their support of helping older residents thrive.
Mr Maph ended the evening with a powerful performance that got everyone up and dancing for a joyful dance session.
The gala served as a reminder of the strength and unity that exists in the Costa del Sol. Everyone came together to support each other, ensuring no one faced life’s challenges by themselves.
