The Spanish State Meteorological Agency, AEMET, has issued a yellow warning for extreme heat in Antequera on the Costa del Sol and in the Guadalhorce valley, where temperatures will rise dangerously.
After a pleasant but brief respite with mild temperatures hovering around 27°C across much of Malaga province on Saturday, the heat is set to return with a vengeance. AEMET forecasts a significant rise starting Sunday, with thermometers in the city of Malaga reaching 30°C. However, the most intense heatwave is expected on Monday, July 28, when temperatures could climb to 36-38°C in Malaga, the Costa del Sol, and the Guadalhorce Valley, with peaks of up to 43°C in areas like Pizarra. Other municipalities, including Cártama, Coín, Álora, and Alhaurín el Grande, are also expected to surpass 40°C. The yellow alert will be in effect from 11am to 6pm in these areas, with Antequera joining the warning at 1pm, experiencing highs of 38°C until 9pm.
Nighttime will offer little relief, as AEMET predicts minimum temperatures of 22-23°C, making sleep difficult for some. The good news is that the heatwave should be short-lived. AEMET forecasts a sharp drop in temperatures on Tuesday, with some areas like Pizarra seeing a decline from 43°C to 33°C, offering hope for cooler days ahead.
