A little-known region in Spain has broken the all-time record for tourism in 2024. And it wants more visitors.


EVEN ONE OF SPAIN’S LESS KNOWN regions has benefitted from the incredible tourism boom in the country.

Aragon has broken its record for tourism, with more than four millions visitors expected in 2024.

These impressive numbers show a 180,000 increase in visitors from the previous record set in 2023. 

The international tourism sector saw a strong increase, with the number of foreign tourists increasing by almost 12% and reaching 911,000.

Aragon welcomes four million visitors to the region by 2024

British tourists joined visitors from France and Italy as the major international markets in the region. The region is positioning itself to be a key destination for inland Spain.

Tourism chiefs now target new markets, especially in Latin America and Europe. 

Tourism Minister Manuel Blasco has stressed the importance of a year-round stable environment for workers and businesses in the industry.

Visitors have rated the region highly for its safety, with a score of 91.4 out 100. 

Overall satisfaction with the tourist experience reached 84.5 percent out of 100.

In 2024, the number of hotel guests grew by 6.2%, accounting for 75%. 

Camping sites were also popular, with 480,000 visitors. Rural tourism accommodations hosted 237,000 guests.

Although August remains the busiest tourism month, with over 574,000 tourists, the regional authorities have been working hard to spread the tourism evenly throughout the entire year. Now, even the quietest months of January attract more than 200,000 visitors.

Tourism officials have noted that Europeans spend typically twice as much on their vacations as do domestic tourists. This makes the international tourism market especially valuable to the local economy.

Tourism in the region continues to be a combination of gastronomy and tourism. It also promotes its natural landscapes as well as historical sites, monuments, etc.
