A dangerous escaped mental patient is captured at a Costa Blanca hospital


A DANGEROUS Belgian who fled from a mental hospital facility was arrested in the province of Alicante.

The 48-year-old man was admitted to Denia Hospital for unknown reasons and the Policia Nacional was informed of his presence.

Officers acted on a European arrest warrant for extradition.

After being treated by the medics, he has been released to police custody.

The man was held indefinitely since April 2018 at a Belgian mental hospital for serious assault, possession and use a prohibited weapons.

It’s not been revealed how or when he was able to escape and make his way to Spain, or for how long he had been ‘on the run’.

In 2016 and 2017, he committed crimes in Tervuren.

He attacked two people in an arcade room with a knife after complaining they were making too many noises.

He also struck his mother two times when he had been drinking.

The Belgian has been handed over to the National Court, which will now process the extradition order.
