Man stabbed after row in park before police arrest two

A man was stabbed during a violent row in a park near Gandia’s Renfe station and later taken to hospital, after police tracked down the alleged attacker and another man accused of helping to hide the knife.

The incident happened in the Parque de l’Estació, where two men who regularly slept and spent time in the area were said to have argued. Police believe the dispute may have been linked to debts, although investigators are still trying to establish exactly what happened.

According to witnesses, the argument escalated and one man pulled out a knife before stabbing the other in what police described as a warning strike. He then fled the scene, leaving the victim bleeding near the station.

A local resident who heard the shouting and saw the suspect run off alerted the Policía Nacional, which sent several patrols to the area. Officers found the injured man and cordoned off the scene while colleagues searched for the suspect.

The victim was taken to the Francesc de Borja Hospital, where medics treated a wound to the back of the calf. He was later discharged after the injury was cleaned and dressed.

Police traced the alleged attacker to the Mirador dels Borja, near the Serpis river, where officers also found a second man who is said to have tried to get rid of the weapon by throwing it into nearby bushes. The knife was recovered at the scene.

Both men were taken to Gandia police station and later brought before a judge. According to the report, one was dealt with for a minor assault offence and the other as an alleged accessory. They were released with an obligation to appear in court when required.
