Internal Medicine Team – Quirónsalud Marbella.
Healthcare providers are moving away the traditional “one size fits everyone” approach in health screening as preventive medicine continues its evolution. Personalised health checks, which are tailored to each person’s medical history and lifestyle, as well as their specific risk factors, are becoming more popular.
Hospital Quirónsalud Marbella has recently launched a new Personalised Health Check Service, an initiative led by its Internal Medicine Department that aims to deliver more precise, patient-centred preventive care.
According to Dr Javier Moreno, Head of Internal Medicine at Hospital Quirónsalud Marbella, personalised screening programmes can offer significant advantages over standard medical check-ups.
“Not every routine checkup performed randomly is useful,” says Dr Moreno. Health checks, if not done properly, can produce false-positive and false-negative information. This leads to anxiety, unnecessary tests, and further invasive procedures.
The difference is in the way the assessment is tailored to each person. During an initial consultation, an Internal Medicine specialist will review factors such as age and gender, family history, personal health concerns, lifestyle, and other relevant factors. He or she then designs the best screening programme.
This approach reflects the growing importance of evidence-based prevention. Instead of performing the same tests on everyone, doctors focus on those that are most likely to give meaningful information and detect disease at an earlier stage.
Dr Moreno says, “We know that well designed personalised health check-ups carried out at the appropriate intervals reduce both the risk and severity of disease if it occurs.”
The service can also be used to assess the risks of cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and other conditions. This is especially useful when family history or personal circumstances indicate a higher-than-average risk profile.
Convenience is also a benefit. The programme was designed to complete all tests, consultations with specialists and diagnostics in one day. Results are reviewed and available in four days by the same Internal Medicine specialist, who coordinated the entire process.
Many international residents, business people and frequent travelers who live or visit the Costa del Sol find it a great advantage to be able to get a comprehensive assessment of their health without having multiple appointments.
The goal of early detection is to prevent future health problems and improve long-term quality of life. Early detection in combination with lifestyle changes and medical guidance can play a vital role in preventing health problems down the road and improving your quality of living.
