After months of delays and diversions, the wait for drivers who depend on one of Casares’s main routes is finally over.
The road is set to reopen in the last week of July
The A-7150 will be reopened to traffic in Casares during the last week of July. No official date has yet been announced. Junta de Andalucia has carried out emergency repair work on the road. The route was closed due to safety concerns after severe winter storms caused landslides that severely damaged the road, which is one of the main routes into the town.
The normal traffic flow should return in a few days. However, the final stabilisation of the hillside will not be completed until September. While final works are being completed, drivers should still follow the signage and safety measures in place.
Nearly €2.4 million invested in repairs
Funding of close to €2.4 million has gone into the urgent intervention, launched after landslides on this stretch made closure necessary for public safety. Crews cleared the road of unstable materials, strengthened the slopes with anchors and steel cables, installed protective netting as well as adapted drainage channels.
Plan regional de redressement
Plan Andalucia Actua – a recovery program launched by regional authorities – includes repairs to repair damage caused by recent storms in the province. As part of this scheme, 230 different works are planned in 37 Andalucian cities. These include both emergency interventions as well as previously scheduled improvements to restore safety on the road network. Resurfacing of the A-377, which runs between Casares & Gaucin and is one of the major routes to Ronda in the area, is also included in the scheme.
