Smoke Exposure and Health Risks
The smoke produced by the fire causes breathing problems in many people. It also threatens the animals that are housed in the zoo. Fine particles can irritate the lungs, eyes and worsen asthma and other conditions. Children, the elderly and those with heart conditions need to be protected. The air quality is currently moderate, but local smoke can quickly raise the risks. Experts recommend that you stay inside, close your windows and wear masks.
Selwo Safari Park challenges
Selwo Aventura is home to thousands of animals, including large species that are difficult to move in an emergency. In the past, fires have forced hundreds of guests and staff to evacuate from the park as well as nearby cabins. Priority is given to human safety in such scenarios. When flames are near tourist attractions, the proximity to homes and forests adds additional pressure.
