Chupete at the double again to seal dominant derby win for Malaga CF

Malaga CF seals dominant win with a second double by Chupete

Malaga CF won 0-3 away at Cadiz on Saturday, displaying one of its most dominant performances this season. The team was in complete control of the game from the start and maintained it throughout the Andalusian Derby.

Chupete punished Moussa Dikate’s mistake in midfield with a left-footed shot from outside the box.

The forward doubled the advantage in the 33rd minute, calmly finishing inside the box after a measured assist from Joaquín despite pressure from Iker Recio.

Malaga’s lead was extended just two minutes after the break when Dani Lorenzo, who had beaten three defenders in a counterattack before scoring from close quarters to make it 0-3, completed his quick attack.

Early Control

Early on, the authority of Malaga was apparent. The Juan Francisco Funes team dominated physically and technically a Cadiz side that had been showing signs of improvement over recent weeks.

The coach introduced Dani Sánchez in place of the injured Rafita and restored Chupete to the starting line-up, while David Larrubia was included despite missing training on Friday due to illness.

Cadiz, meanwhile, handed former Malaga forward Antoñito (on loan from Newcastle United) an opportunity following the late absence of Brian Ocampo. The forward, however, was replaced at half-time after making a limited contribution.

Larrubia teed Carlos Dotor up and the visitors were able to create several early chances. Dotor’s warning shot was one of them. Shortly after, the opening goal set the tone of the rest of the half.

Malaga pressed on, and Dani Lorenzo was given the space to dictate the play along with an influential Dotor. Larrubia also played energetically. Joaquín also contributed significantly, while Chupete proved decisive in front of goal, registering his sixth brace of the season.

Cadiz failed to score in the second half. The team managed only two attempts, none of which tested Alfonso Herrero.

Clinical Finishing

The second half began with the end of any chance of a comeback. Alfonso Herrero stopped Dawda from scoring in a 1-on-1 situation. Malaga then launched a counterattack, which led to Dani Lorenzo’s score.

Cadiz tried to adapt by switching to a three-man defence after the introduction of Bojan Kovicevic. However, the change did not stop the attacks. Malaga maintained composure in possession and continued to create chances. They also controlled the game’s tempo.

Eneko Jauregi, Julen Lobete and other substitute forwards had late chances to extend the scoreline. However, the visitors settled on three goals as they continued their momentum.

With 11 matches left in the season, Malaga is just one point away from the automatic promotion places.
