If you are unsure, please contact us. The weather There’s a new weather system coming. Spain’s state weather agency has issued orange warnings in parts of the country – especially the Canary Islands – as a new weather system brings heavy rain, strong winds and a noticeable shift in conditions. Forecasters claim that although mainland Spain’s skies may be quieter for a short time, they are predicting a real change in the weather. This could lead to disruptions within the next couple of days.

The sudden change of weather can catch people by surprise. One day feels mild and stable, the next comes with grey skies, wind and showers – something many residents in Spain know all too well during seasonal transitions.

Why is the weather changing so much?

Meteorologists have pointed out a DANA The main cause of this unsettling spell is the development of an isolated low temperature. These systems in Spain are known for their unpredictable weather, especially for sudden bursts that feel intense for this time of year.

Tenerife, the eastern islands and other parts of Spain may experience periods of rain and heavy showers. Thunderstorms can also occur. In mountainous regions, rain can linger along the northern slopes.

The picture in mainland Spain and Balearics is calmer, but still far from settled. There is a chance of low clouds, mists and patches of fog in many inland and Mediterranean regions, including parts of eastern Castilla La Mancha and the Ebro Valley. There are strong winds expected in the Strait of Gibraltar, and some parts of southern Spain. Easterly gusts could exceed 70 km/h. This can cause rough seas, poor visibility, and difficult driving on coastal routes.

The impact will be less pronounced but still evident in other areas. Even outside of the alert zones, foggy mornings and changing temperatures can disrupt daily routines.

What this means to residents and travellers

For most people, this isn’t a severe nationwide weather event – but it is a reminder that Spain’s weather can change fast, particularly as seasons begin to shift.

Heavy showers or wind can cause delays for travelers heading to and from the Canary Islands. Fog on the mainland can also cause visibility problems for early-morning commuters.

Temperatures will be slightly higher in western Spain, while they will be lower in the east and along some coasts. Inland overnight lows are possible, and frost is possible at higher altitudes of mountain ranges such as the Pyrenees.

Conditions will be mixed, with calm and unrest in different places. They can change within hours.

Spring surprises in Spain

This is not an unusual occurrence. Spain’s geography – mountains, coastlines and islands spread across different climate zones – often produces striking contrasts in weather at the same time.

Clouds, rain and strong winds can easily replace what feels like the arrival spring on one day. This latest change fits perfectly into that pattern.

The best way to prepare for the unpredictable weather is to pay attention and stay in tune with local forecasts. The sun is still shining, but for a time it will be sharing the stage with fog, windy afternoons and bursts rain.

If there’s anything this week’s outlook makes clear, it is that Spain’s weather hasn’t finished surprising us yet.
