The Alhama river burst the banks of a section on the Gr-4105 road that connects Beas de Guadix with Marchal in the province Granada just seconds after a passing family in their car.

As a precaution, access was restricted in the area. However, it was reopened Thursday morning in Marchal. However, access to Polícar and Lugros, located behind the broken section of road, is still closed off and the river is still dangerously close to the road.

Juan Manuel Valdivia the mayor of Marchal was on the scene at the time: “We left the area because the earth began to give in. A family had passed just ten seconds earlier on the road in the direction of Polícar. “We don’t want to even imagine what could have happened if someone was crossing the road.”

Marchal town council has performed emergency work on six houses which have suffered from water leaks. It was not necessary to evacuate any of the residents.
