Residents in Andalucia battened the hatches as STORM Joseph caused havoc and destruction throughout southern Spain.
A resident recorded a video showing tables and chairs falling 60 metres from a luxury Eurocity complex in Gibraltar. They smashed violently into the pavement below.
Amazingly, there were no pedestrians in the area at the time of the accident and no injuries have been reported despite its terrifying nature.
The scene was one of many dramatic scenes in a chaotic day which saw the region battered by hurricane-force winds, torrential downpours and torrential hail.

Jaen, further inland in Spain, was also devastated.
A huge commercial sign from a Dia store in Bulevar collapsed and fell into a car park, just missing a van parked there.
Witnesses described it as a ‘huge scare’ though no injuries were recorded.
In Cadiz Province, the Rio Hozgarganta bursts its banks at Jimena de la Frontera. This triggered a level 1 alert by emergency services.
Cadiz was slammed by rough seas as massive waves broke the walls of the Campo del Sur sea wall.

Sevilla, too, was not spared. A large palm tree snapped and collapsed in front of PTV Sevilla’s offices.
The city council closed all public parks, cemeteries and playgrounds to prevent accidents.
In Malaga province, a newly built bike lane in the Huelin neighbourhood, which cost over €1 million, was rendered impassable by a massive flood, sparking local outrage over drainage planning.

Firefighters in Marbella had to act immediately to cut down an emerald tree that threatened to fall into a public road.
Nature offered a brief respite from the damage in the Sierra de Cazorla, where rivers and waterfalls were reported to be ‘overflowing with beauty’ due to the deluge.
However, the Rio Guadiaro in Jimera de Libar was reported to be ‘full to the brim’, with drivers warned to exercise extreme caution on nearby roads.
In Gibraltar, the government issued a ‘stay at home’ warning as debris flew across the territory.
The traffic was diverted on the Edinburgh Estate when parts of the Bishop Canilla House began to fall and detach.
Hardings Way, near the University was also closed because of loose structures.

The storm shut down the Strait of Gibraltar across the border.
Since yesterday morning at 5am, all ferry crossings between Algeciras and Tarifa, Ceuta, and Tangier are cancelled.

Heavy goods vehicles were banned from entering the terminals at the Port of Algeciras, as the waiting areas were full. Ships anchored in Algeciras Bay were sent out to sea for the storm.
Parents in Campo de Gibraltar have reacted furiously after schools were kept open despite Orange & Yellow alerts and forced them to dodge falling branches while on their way to school.
