In a turn of events that captured the attention of the Costa del Sol, a dog named Cuco was safely rescued after accidentally falling from the scenic viewpoint at the Estupa de la Iluminación in Benalmadena. Cuco, a family dog, was out for a walk with his owners near the popular mirador adjacent to the iconic Buddhist estupa when he slipped over the edge. The viewpoint, perched on the hillside in Benalmadena Pueblo, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Costa del Sol coastline, but its elevated position, combined with natural terrain, can pose risks, especially for curious animals. Witnesses described tense moments as the dog became trapped below beneath the viewpoint.
Firefighting team climb down to rescue dog
Emergency services were promptly alerted, and the Benalmadena Fire Service was on the scene in minutes. Firefighters, equipped for technical rescues in challenging terrain, descended to reach Cuco. Using ropes, harnesses, and their expertise in animal handling and high-angle operations, they managed to get the dog and bring him back up safely. The operation was described as a complete success, with no serious injuries reported to the pet.
