A picture of the fractured joint in the rail believed to be responsible for Spain’s most serious train accident in more than a decade was released.
Eight days ago, two high speed trains derailed at Adamuz, Cordoba. This was the deadliest rail accident in Spain since 80 people were murdered in Santiago de Compostela last year.
After the rear carriages from a Madrid bound Iryo service with over 300 passengers crossed an adjacent track and collided a separate Huelva-bound train, a total of 45 people were killed.
Investigators looking into the cause have now turned their attention towards the infrastructure of the popular Madrid to Andalucia route. This route is a major travel corridor, with millions of passengers travelling it every year.

The official preliminary report of the Commission for Investigation of Railway Accidents CIAF lays the blame on a broken track welding.
Investigators believe that carriage number six from the Iryo train derailed when it hit a 30-centimetre crack in the rail on the right.
After the rear carriages of the train invaded the opposing track, they were struck by a train coming in seconds.
After a Spanish newspaper reported the incident, transport minister Oscar Puente posted a photo on X of X. El Mundo Falsely reported that the track piece responsible for the accident had not been replaced since 1990.

Puente said that a HOAX the size of a cathedral was once again on the front pages. Years pass and nothing changes: tragedy followed by misinformation.
He showed a receipt that indicated that the track, which weighed 60kg per metre was installed in May and June last year.
He said: “STOP MISLEADING! Let’s get to work. “We already have a lot on our plates with the clarification of this and solving problems that it brings. We don’t need to spend time constantly debunking falsehoods.”
The investigation continues into the causes of the tragedy.
