Cristo del Amore Bridge, Marbella, under repair

Marbella Council completed a series urgent safety improvements Cristo del Amor is an important infrastructure that connects Pilar Miraflores with Santa Marta. It carries thousands vehicles and pedestrians each day.

The Department of Public Works carried out the work, which included replacing the expansion joints on both ends of structure, installing a new metal sheet in place of previous plate, and resurfacing a part of roadway with fresh asphalt.

Safety is guaranteed

The council has stated “These works were essential to guaranteeing the safety an infrastructure that is used daily by thousands of pedestrians and vehicles.” Further improvements will be made, they announced. The iconic bridge is set to receive an aesthetic upgrade in the next few weeks with the installation decorative ornamental lights. Cristo del Amor is one of the most emblematic locations in Marbella and deserves to be properly highlighted,” López stated.

According to the Council’s statement, every effort was made to ensure that the traffic on the bridge would not disrupt residents or regular users. This bridge is the natural link between the two densely populated neighbourhoods.

More parking spaces are needed

In a separate but related development, the Council has temporarily closed the downhill access to Avenida Maíz Viñals from the well-known ‘Guardia Civil roundabout’ as part of ongoing works to create new parking spaces along that road. After the current phase, the intervention will continue in the southern section.

The improvements made to the Cristo Del Amor Bridge and the addition of new parking areas will directly improve the quality of living for residents of an area with a high level of activity. The Cristo del Amor remains open to traffic after the completion the safety works. A new lighting system is planned to further enhance its appearance and visibility at night.
