Fuengirola’s advertising campaign static at Matka 2026.

Fuengirola’s role as a top destination for Finnish tourists has been strengthened through a targeted campaign at Matka, the leading tourism event in Northern Europe. Mayor Ana Mula and Tourism Councillor José Luis Ponce led the city’s delegation in Helsinki, presenting Fuengirola as an ideal location for holidays, temporary residence, and business ventures.
“The relationship between Fuengirola Finland has a long history,” said Mayor Mula. The Finnish visitors to Fuengirola enjoy excellent service, wellbeing, sunny weather, and award winning beaches. Residents from around the world contribute to the international character of the city, which attracts both newcomers and tourist alike.”
Collaboration with Finnish football team Gilla FC
The delegation was welcomed by Gilla FC. This newly-established Helsinki football team has a strong social media presence. The discussions focused on the hosting of pre-season sessions and friendly games in Fuengirola. This was to bring together young Finnish audiences and the city’s sporting facilities.
The team also attended a reception in the Spanish Embassy where they presented sketches. Somos España, a permanent exhibition by local artist Paco Pérez located in Fuengirola.
Finland Tourism professionals’ meetings and promotion
Mayor Mula participated in the joint Costa del Sol promo event and met with Finnish tourism professionals throughout Matka. Fuengirola’s static advertisement campaign was launched in Helsinki, as well as other Finnish cities.
Most Finnish communities outside Finland
Fuengirola has the largest Finnish community in the world, with approximately 5,000 residents. In 2024 more than 33, 000 Finnish tourists stayed in the city, which amounted to over 340,000 nights. According to data from Turismo Costa del Sol, 43% of Finnish tourists in Malaga choose Fuengirola and stay there for nearly 60% of the time.
Fuengirola’s efforts to promote Matka 2020 reinforce its position as the leading destination in Northern Europe for tourists, by highlighting its facilities, service, and welcoming atmosphere.
