NEW figures reveal Spain’s best- and worst-performing airports when it comes to delays and cancellations.
According to data crunched by boffins at AirHelp – an online service that helps airline passengers apply for compensation – more than one in four flights taking off from Spanish airports last year were either delayed or cancelled.
More than 34 million passengers have been affected by disruptions. Around 1.25 million of these were eligible for compensation under EU law.
In total, Spanish airports served nearly 140 million passengers in 2025 on more than 950,000 different flights – the most registered journeys for any country in the European Union.
Palma de Mallorca was the worst airport in Spain for flight disruptions, with 34% of flights affected last year.
In this instance, it is likely that heavy rain and storms in 2025 at the tail end played a key role. They caused lengthy delays and forced a large number of cancellations.

Ryanair reports that there are many other factors involved. Between January and September 2025, over six millions passengers were delayed due to problems with staffing and managing the Spanish air traffic control service.
Palma de Mallorca, Reus (31.8%), and Murcia (28.5%) were all in close proximity on the naughty-list.
At Spain’s two busiest airports – Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona El-Prat – around 77 per cent of flights departed on time.
Asturias, on the other hand, was the airport with the highest performance in Spain. 89 percent of flights took off as scheduled.
Bilbao was the best-performing travel hub, with only 14 percent of flights departing late.
