Families across the region welcomed 2026 with joy and excitement in hospital delivery room.

The honor of being the first baby born in the province went to Sofía, a girl who came into the world at 0.37am on January 1 at the Hospital Universitario Costa del Sol in Marbella. Weighing in at 2.56 kilograms and measuring 47 centimetres, Sofía is the first child of parents Carlota and Daniel. The couple were toasting the New Year with non-alcoholic drinks, when labor began. It was a memorable moment for all.
