Phoenix from the flames: Champagne Charlies, Torremolinos, back on their feet and open for Christmas

Champagne Charlies Torremolinos is back in business and ready for Christmas

One of the beloved local bars that was destroyed in a devastating fire this year reopened on December 17th, thanks to the extraordinary support provided by the tight-knit community of expats.

A fire in August completely destroyed the popular venue that was a favorite among British and foreign residents. Owners were devastated after working for years to build it. The community spirit and determination won out.

The community rallies around

Hundreds of locals came together to raise money, make generous donations, and lend a hand in the rebuilding process. Champagne Charlies’ owners thanked everyone who helped, but they emphasized the tireless work of John, Robbie and Mark (Cavery).

Owners said, “We’re proud to announce that our doors will reopen at 7:00pm tonight.” “This wouldn’t have been possible without your incredible support in an extremely difficult situation.”

Champagne Charlies is run by Brian and Alison. They are a welcoming couple who have long been part of Torremolinos’ expat community on Calle Salvador Allende. The bar hung up a sign welcoming their customers, which read: “Welcome Back to the Bar, Thank you for Being Here Tonight and Supporting Us Through It All.” We’re grateful to have this new start with you. Lots of love, Brian & Alison.” The evening was celebrated with local community members and a good old karaoke.

The August fire that destroyed McGuire’s and other bars in the area shocked the local community. GoFundMe quickly raised funds to rebuild these beloved centers. After months of hard work, volunteers and supporters worked alongside professionals to restore this beloved bar to its former glory and possibly even more.

Champagne Charlies’ revival is seen by many as a symbolism of Torremolinos international community’s unbreakable spirit. The timing could not be better. With the holiday season well underway, it’s the perfect time to bring back one of the most popular spots for the Torremolinos community.
