The collapse of Christmas lights has been caused by heavy rainfall and strong winds in La Cala de Mijas. Residents have been advised to use caution today on the roads.
Municipal technicians claim that the strong winds could have reached up to 130km per hour and torn away the festive lights which decorated La Cala de Mijas.
Early this morning, the weather caused large huts to be displaced from the beach and small boats to move on the sand.

Residents are advised to be cautious on the roads this morning, as falling trees, debris and possibly dangling cables could pose a safety threat.
However, emergency services are working to clear roads of obstructions and hazards.
Jesus Riesco the director of Malaga’s weather centre reports that Aemet has sent technicians to investigate.
Riesco himself believes that the destruction was due to a waterspout, a small tornado, or a ‘downburst’ associated with a convective process but awaits the conclusion from specialists.
‘As it has such small dimensions and is so localised, it is impossible to detect it in our systems, because it has been a hyper-localised thing. He says that if it was a tornado you could see its trajectory immediately.
