The Guardia Civil has smashed an gang which used helicopters to smuggle Moroccan hashish in Spain.
The helicopters that could carry up to 900 kilograms each flew from the Mediterranean to the south of Spain where hashish would be transported to other parts in Europe by road.
The operation involved Moroccan, Belgian, and Swedish law enforcement agencies.

The suspects are being held on suspicions of drug trafficking. belonging to criminal organisations and possessing firearms.
During raids in Malaga, Almeria, and Murcia, the Guardia confiscated a helicopter, 657 kilograms of hashish and five firearms. They also seized cash, vehicles and six hundred fifty seven kilograms of marijuana.
A Guardia source said that it is not common for gangs to use helicopters to smuggle illegal drugs, but they do so occasionally.
“Remember, helicopters are hard to steal and easy to spot on the black-market,” he said.
In the first half of this year, the police busted gangs using drones to transport durgs from Morocco to Spain.
Spain’s geographical location makes it the main entry point into Europe for hashish, mainly from Morocco and cocaine from Latin America.
Hashish can be smuggled via sea, using jet-skis or high-speed launches.
