The Attorney General of SPAIN has been found guilty of leaking information that was confidential about a partner of a major rival.
Supreme Court bans Alvaro Garcia Ortiz for 2 years from his post.
The verdict is a blow to Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who defended García Ortiz during the months long probe and trial.

Sanchez said that “disagreement over this decision should not cause widespread distrust of institutions.”
Justice Minister, Felix Bolaños, said the process to nominate a replacement would start in the coming days.
García Ortiz was accused of having leaked an email to journalists and written a press release with personal information about Alberto Gonzalez Amador, when the businessman was under investigation for alleged tax fraud.
The tax investigation is still ongoing.
Gonzalez Amador is the boyfriend of the Madrid regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who is one of the key figures in the conservative opposition Partido Popular(PP).
Garcia Ortiz has denied allegations that he leaked to the media an email exchange that took place between the prosecutors and Gonzalez Amador’s lawyer. In the email, the attorney suggested that his client confess two counts of tax fraud as a way to avoid prison.
The Attorney General then testified that he did not know of any such transaction.
García Ortiz does have the option of lodging an appeal with the Constitutional Court.
He has also been ordered to pay €7,200 in fines, €10,000 in compensation to Gonzalez Amador plus court fees.
In Spain’s recent history, it was the very first time that a senior prosecutor had to face a criminal trial.
This is just one of many cases involving suspected corruption in which people close to Pedro Sanchez have been implicated.
