When officers inspected a farm, they discovered that there were several exotic animals living on a private land.
Guardia’s Seprona environmental unit confirmed that they were within a 50m2 enclosed area with a metal fence and a glass door.
The museum houses five specimens. Leptailurus serval species.
The group consisted of an adult female pregnant, an adult man and three young offspring aged between four months and five months.
Officers found that the animals were smuggled in to the Canary Islands, without authorisation.
It is possible that the cubs were bred to be sold on the black-market.
Three people were placed under investigation and five animals taken away. Other possible offences include administrative and customs violations.
After approval from the Ministry for Ecological Transition, specialist centres now take care of leopards.
