The new Ricardo Soriano Health Centre in Marbella is a modern facility that will improve the quality of life and ease access to healthcare for thousands of residents.
The centre, which was inaugurated on October 30, in a 2,000 square metre fully renovated building, began to serve patients that day. It has already made a significant improvement to the local primary health care services.
The facility has 23 consultation rooms and includes a space dedicated to minor surgery. It also features advanced equipment, such as the fifth mammogram machine in the district. This facility offers comprehensive care, which was previously not available at the nearby Leganitos center. This new setup will help to decongest Leganitos, a facility that has been struggling with space problems for many years.
The centre, which serves approximately 20,000 residents – many of them elderly – employs 20 professionals full time, who are supported by five other staff members. It operates from Monday to Friday 8am to 3.30pm initially, but plans are in place to extend the hours to 8am-8pm. The expansion will provide better flexibility for families with working parents and reduce waiting times for appointments.
As Marbella’s sixth primary care centre, Ricardo Soriano plays a key role in a broader initiative to modernise healthcare infrastructure across Andalusia’s Costa del Sol. Other upgrades, such as the expansions completed in Torremolinos, Los Boliches and Fuengirola in September, are part of ongoing efforts to deal with the growing population in the region and its year-round demands. Malaga Province has seen a significant increase in the number of people over the past 30 years. influx These improvements are essential to ensuring sustainable healthcare.
The project has involved over €3 million in renovations by local authorities, transforming a historic building into a cutting-edge healthcare hub. Residents can benefit from updated and improved preventive healthcare, faster diagnostics and specialised treatment closer to their homes, improving overall well-being, and reducing travel time to distant hospital.
The development is part of a province-wide investment exceeding €350 million in Malaga’s health network over recent years, with €32 million allocated this year alone. The future projects are promising, including new centres at Nueva Andalucia, and the expansion of Las Albarizas.
