Spanish football fan who racially abused Barcelona and England star Marcus Rashford faces €4,000 fine

A SPANISH football fan who allegedly directed racist abuse towards Barcelona and England forward Marcus Rashford could be handed a fine of up to €4,000, Spain’s anti-violence commission has said.

The incident is said to have occurred on September 25, during a match played between La Liga champions Real Oviedo and the La Liga champions.

TV microphones at the Estadio Carlos Tartiere in Asturias reportedly picked up a racial slur – equivalent to the N-word in English – being hurled at the 28-year-old, who is on loan at the Camp Nou from boyhood club Manchester United, while he took a corner.

Social media was flooded with footage of the incident.

According to Cadena SER, Spain’s anti-violence committee has recommended a fine of €4,000 – although the fate of the Real Oviedo supporter will lie in the hands of the Disciplinary Committee, who will meet to agree on the punishment handed out.

The statement read: “La Liga discovered the images on social networks and filed a report with the Policia Nacional.

“Following the analysis of the footage captured by the Organizational Control Unit (UCO), cameras at the stadium, the identity of the alleged offender was established.

The final decision in the criminal proceeding will determine the processing of the proposal.

Rashford’s first 13 games in Catalan have been a success. He has scored five goals, and provided seven assists.

The forward, who was capped 66 time for England, already stated his desire to make this move permanent.

“I enjoy this football club, and I believe that for anyone who loves football Barcelona is one the key clubs in history. “For a player, it’s an honor,” he said ESPN.
